Dear Students,
Welcome to the University of Seoul family!
This year marks the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and France. To celebrate this special occasion, the University of Seoul Museum is preparing a special lecture entitled “La Baleine, la Croix et le Canon” (“The Whale, the Cross and the Cannon”).
The title is inspired by the book La Croix, la Baleine et le Canon (Cerf, 2012), written by Professor Pierre-Emmanuel Roux of Université Paris Cité.
When we think about the history of Korea and France, we often recall moments of conflict, war, and tragedy. But there is another history—one of encounters, exchanges, hospitality, and friendship.
Through this lecture, we will explore the older and warmer history of relations between Korea and France, and share stories of how the two countries have encountered and welcomed one another over the years.
The lecture will be given in English. We have also prepared a small gift and refreshments for our guests.
We warmly invite you to join us at the UOS Museum and enjoy this special occasion together in the beautiful autumn season.
