Part-time Work Permission


It is illegal for D-2 visa holders to work outside of the university and earn an income without acquiring a prior permission. It is considered as illegal employment, leading to serious penalty on both the employer and the student. Please start to work before the immigration office’s permission.


To obtain this permission, you are required to obtain prior permission from OIA office and the immigration office to work outside of the university.

D-2 visa holders who are qualified with sufficient GPA and TOPIK or English test score can apply for part-time work permission, with the maximum allowance as one year;

Permitted Fields of Work

- General interpretation and translation

- Restaurant assistance

- General office assistance

- Tourism guidance support and duty-free store sales assistance

Restricted Fields and Work Types

- Construction and manufacturing industries

- Private tutoring activities

- Work in facilities related to foreign language education for minors

  Examples: English kids’ cafes, English camps, foreign language conversation academies, etc.

- Employment without a direct contract with the employer (e.g., the business owner)

  Examples: Delivery rider activities for intermediary companies

- Employment based on dispatch, contracting, or brokerage relationships

- Employment located more than one hour away from the student’s residence or university

- Fields requiring E-1 to E-7 professional visas, E-9, or E-10 non-professional visas

- Other activities beyond the scope of a student’s status or any work the Minister of Justice deems necessary to restrict

< Working Hours Limit>


- With TOPIK Level 4 or above: 25 hours per week (weekdays), no limit (weekend)


- Without TOPIK: 10 hours per week (weekdays and weekend)

3. Alien Registration Card


4. Academic Transcript


5. TOPIK Certificate


6. Contract of part-time job (working hours and period should be included)


7. A copy of a certificate of business registration of your intended place of work


8. Other additional documents upon request from the Immigration office.
